Sashiko / Boro
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese hand stitching technique used for functional and decorative embroidery, often forming geometric patterns. Boro refers to the practice of mending and patching old, worn-out textiles using Sashiko, creating layers of fabric that tell a story of sustainability and resourcefulness.
Karina reimagines Sashiko and Boro by using traditional hand-stitching methods while crafting her own freehand patterns. Unlike typical Sashiko designs, which often follow strict geometric forms, her stitches flow organically, creating unique personal artwork with each project, blending old techniques with new creativity.
